“Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.” – Ben Franklin.

In teachings of the masters, we hear a lot about the power of the word. We know that the messages our words transmit are a tremendous creative force that can bring intention to fruition; we also see that they can carry the power to assist or to injure the people we send them out to.

Can you remember an instance when someone said something to you and it stuck? Maybe you recently got a genuine compliment and it changed your day. Perhaps you’ll recall the first time a bully called you a name. Does the memory of it still hold the power to affect you emotionally?

These memories serve by reminding us that our own language carries the ability to sway others emotionally. Our words are powerful transmitters of our own feelings and to be truly conscious includes being aware of how we use words and how they affect the world around us.

To genuinely feel what we say when we say it transmits even greater power than we might know. Try an experiment: for the next day or two, pay attention to how the words you use affect you; how they feel in your body and how easily they move your emotions. Notice that when you react and speak quickly, your words don’t carry the same power as when you speak thoughtfully and confidently.

When we listen to others sincerely before we speak for ourselves, the words we choose carry greater integrity and deeper meaning. Take the time to center yourself before sharing your word and observe as the energy you transmit becomes a sentient messenger, relaying the wonderful presence of positive energy that lives in your being.
