I recently received a letter from a very light soul who candidly and sincerely offered the following:

“Understanding who we are is so confusing. I learn lessons every day, but I see I am still lost…. We read many books, trying to find ourselves. I have a heart that wants to give and to love…. In this society, it can be rather scary -”

I’m certain many of you can empathize with these feelings. Who among us has not at some time reached a similar conclusion?

Sentiments like these are messages from the heart, asking for our attention. We all have a hard time finding “who we are” when who we think we are gets in the way. That aspect is called the ego; its job is to protect you. It often does so by preventing any major changes from happening in your life.

This is a good time to remember a pet aphorism of mine: shift happens.

The most effective way to shift from wanting and waiting to having and holding is easily understood, because it’s also the best way to eat a feast—one small bite at a time.

Here’s the mantra:

Small shifts bring huge benefits.

Look around you. Your opportunities abound; many shed light on signposts and guidelines that lead to minor yet seamless shifts in the shifting sands of life.

Some signs are brightly lit and clearly marked; our job is to act on them. Fearful, oblivious, myopic or diffident, we have often ignored them and in so doing, remained incapable of choosing in our own best interests.

Other signs are hidden and obtuse, challenging us to discover them. Sometimes we’re up for the challenge; other times we fear it, believing it’s better to face a devil we know than one we don’t.

Take heart! Feelings of confusion and uncertainty are direct and distinct messages from inner space letting you know it’s time to make your move. Move upward, forward or sideways, but move!

Beneath your hesitation and uncertainty is a beautiful heart of unerring wisdom. With inner faith, the process becomes easy. Move in the direction that feels best, and trust the messenger. Now you’re moving in a positive direction no matter where it takes you.

Next time we’ll discuss the vital and powerful principles that make it all flow effortlessly.

Light be with you –

Peter
